Kenny Carothers
President
Kenny is an ecologist and environmental consultant with 34+ years experience. His work has been focused on the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and National Environmental Policy Act and he has acquired particular expertise in Conservation and Mitigation Banking.
Kenny is on the Ecological Restoration Business Association (ERBA) Board of Directors, and an active Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP) with the Society for Ecological Restoration.
Lee Forbes
Director - Ecological Restoration Engineering
Lee is a consulting civil/environmental engineer with more than 35 years’ experience and a focus on sustainable watershed resources management practices and technology.
He has managed and been lead design engineer on many watershed and fluvial geomorphological assessment, natural channel design, ecologically enhanced channel design, wetland restoration, and hydro-dynamic modeling projects across the U.S.
Lee is a registered Professional Engineer in multiple states and is a Diplomate of Water Resources Engineering (D.WRE).
Shanna Kistler
Office Principal
Shanna is a civil/environmental engineering project manager focused on watershed and fluvial geomorphological assessments, stream and wetland restoration, water budgeting, and natural channel design (NCD). She has managed projects involving multiple disciplines and several federal and state agencies. She frequently serves as the primary client contact and resolution manager.
Shanna is certified by the Virginia DEQ as a Combined Administrator for Erosion and Sediment Control and is fully trained in Rosgen principles.
Natalie Bue
Project Manager / Environmental Scientist
Natalie is an environmental scientist with extensive experience in environmental surveys, reports, and permitting, covering major legislation including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Clean Water Act (CWA) Sections 401 and 404, mitigation banking, geomorphic surveys, and threatened and endangered species surveys.
Her experience also extends to ecological restoration and natural resource management including site preparation, planting plans, undesirable and invasive plant identification and removal, and post-restoration monitoring and maintenance.
Natalie is a licensed Herbicide Applicator for invasive species removal.
Cody Vicenik
Senior Environmental Specialist
Cody is a Senior Environmental Specialist with over 11 years of experience in biological resources consulting, environmental compliance, and field-based ecological assessments. He supports infrastructure and restoration projects across the Gulf Coast, Intermountain West, and beyond, with expertise in Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 404 permitting, threatened and endangered species evaluations, and compliance under NEPA and FERC regulations.
Cody’s technical skillset includes wetland and waterbody delineations, vegetation and wildlife surveys, erosion and sediment control planning, and SWPPP implementation. He has served in key roles—including Field Lead, Deputy Project Manager, and QA/QC Manager—on large-scale energy, pipeline, carbon capture, and renewable energy projects.
He is certified in Wetland Delineation and FERC Environmental Review and Compliance, and routinely works with multidisciplinary teams and regulatory agencies to ensure technically sound, regulation-compliant deliverables. His applied field knowledge and documentation expertise strengthen Headway Environmental’s ability to provide high-quality, defensible solutions that meet both environmental and project objectives.
Cezanne Sanders
Wetland Scientist and Environmental Specialist
Cezanne is a Wetland Scientist and Environmental Specialist with two years of experience in environmental permitting, natural resource assessments, and regulatory compliance across the South Central US. They specialize in wetland delineations, habitat assessments, threatened and endangered species surveys, and environmental inspections in support of infrastructure, renewable energy, and land development projects. Certified in Wetland Delineation through the Wetland Training Institute, Cezanne has supported compliance with NEPA, the Clean Water Act (Section 404), and the Endangered Species Act. Their technical expertise includes OHWM delineations, vegetation surveys, biological monitoring, and preparation of environmental documentation for submittal to agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, FEMA, and SHPOs.
Cezanne provides technical oversight of natural and cultural resource investigations, ensuring regulatory requirements are met while maintaining strong coordination with clients and agencies. Their experience includes collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, use of GIS tools for field data collection, and development of technical reports to support environmental review and permitting processes.
